Lakers Making Moves
The Lakers have been busy, having just signed Kentavious Caldwell-Pope to a 1 year, $18 million deal. Not only that, but they are still reportedly pursuing Rondo.
The 4 year shooting guard was a restricted free agent, until the Detroit Pistons renounced their rights to him and he became unrestricted. This came after the Pistons signed Avery Bradley.
Now in LA, KCP appears to be a good fit. He’s an awesome defender and has shown some real flashes on the offensive side. Ball, Clarkson and Pope make for a pretty interesting backcourt rotation for the Lakers moving forward. A starting 5 of Ball, Pope, Ingram, Randle and Lopez will be very fun to watch no doubt. Maybe not a playoff team next year, in the wild, wild west, but they’re not too far away.
This deal made sense for the Lakers. KCP is an obvious upgrade over Nick Young and, since it’s only a 1 year deal, they will still have cap room left to pursue Paul George and maybe even LeBron! If they manage to sign George, lets say, as well as keeping Pope, that could be a dangerous team in the near future!
Despite signing KCP, LA are still looking to sign free agent point guard, Rajon Rondo. They would be looking for him to supply some veteran leadership and especially to be a mentor for Lonzo Ball.
There is still a long way to go but the Los Angeles Lakers are definitely moving in the right direction.
